Winter Survival Skills

📋 What it is

Cold is dangerous — staying dry, layered and insulated prevents dangerous drops in body temperature.

🗣️ Coach says

Winter is the harshest test. The enemy is losing body heat, so the rules are: stay DRY (wet loses heat fast), dress in LAYERS you can add or remove, insulate from the cold ground, keep moving gently to make heat, and eat and drink to fuel your inner furnace. Winter outings especially need an adult and good gear.

🧠 Memory hook

Winter: stay DRY · dress in LAYERS · insulate from the ground · keep gently moving · fuel up. Heat-loss is the enemy.

😂 Giggle

Why don't mountains ever get cold?
Because they wear snowcaps and have volcanic vents for heating!

😲 Whoa!

You lose body heat many times faster when wet than when dry — which is why "stay dry" is the number-one rule of cold-weather survival.

✅ Quick check: Why is staying DRY the top rule in cold-weather survival?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Layer up a coat over a jumper and notice you can adjust warmth by adding/removing — winter layering.

🤸 Brain break: Layer-up: mime pulling on jacket layers one by one — trapping warmth.
