Concrete Examples
📋 What it is
Turning a fuzzy idea into something real you could point at or picture.
🗣️ Coach says
Abstract ideas are slippery. A concrete example gives them a body: "fairness" is hard, but "we each get 3 cookies" is easy. Always ask "what’s an example?"
🧠 Memory hook
Give it a body. If you can’t point at it or picture it, find an example that you can.
😂 Giggle
Why did the abstract idea put on a costume?
So it could show up as a concrete example you can actually picture!
😲 Whoa!
Two or three good examples of the same idea help your brain spot the pattern — the part that stays the same across all of them.
✅ Quick check: A friend says "I don’t get ‘democracy’." What helps most?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
A concrete example: "our class voting on the field-trip spot — most votes wins." Picture-able beats a definition.
A concrete example gives the abstract idea something to hold onto.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Pick an abstract word (like "energy" or "kindness") and name TWO real, picture-able examples of it.
