Higher frequency means higher pitch; instruments make notes by controlling how fast things vibrate.

Music is organised vibration. The faster something vibrates (higher frequency), the higher the pitch we hear. Shorter or tighter strings, smaller drums and shorter air columns vibrate faster and sound higher; longer/looser ones sound lower. Musicians tune by changing frequency.
