Wave Interactions & Interference

📋 What it is

Beats, standing waves and diffraction all come from waves interacting in predictable ways.

Waves interacting create rich patterns. Two close frequencies produce "beats" (a wobbling loud-soft), reflections can set up standing waves (like on a guitar string), and waves bend around edges and gaps (diffraction). All follow from how waves add and cancel.

When two guitar strings are ALMOST in tune, you hear a slow "wah-wah-wah" pulsing — musicians tune until those beats disappear.
