Atmosphere Basics
📋 What it is
The atmosphere is the blanket of air around Earth; weather all happens in its lowest layer.
🗣️ Coach says
The atmosphere is the ocean of air we live at the bottom of. It has layers, but nearly all WEATHER — clouds, rain, wind — happens in the lowest layer (the troposphere). The air has weight and pressure, and differences in that pressure and temperature drive everything the weather does.
🧠 Memory hook
Atmosphere = layered blanket of air. Weather lives in the LOWEST layer; pressure + temperature drive it.
😂 Giggle
Why did the weather report go to school?
To improve its fore-cast!
😲 Whoa!
The air above you has weight — the atmosphere presses down on your body with the weight of a small car, but you don’t feel it because it pushes equally from all sides.
✅ Quick check: In which atmospheric layer does nearly all weather happen?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
The lowest layer (the troposphere) — where clouds, rain and wind occur.
Weather occurs in the troposphere.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Feel the wind on your skin — that’s the atmosphere’s air moving because of pressure differences.
