Animal Adaptations
📋 What it is
Adaptations are body or behaviour traits that help an animal survive its habitat.
🗣️ Coach says
Every animal is built for its home. Physical adaptations are body traits — a chameleon’s colour change, a polar bear’s fur. Behavioural adaptations are actions — birds migrating, bears hibernating. Both help survival, and both were shaped by natural selection over generations.
🧠 Memory hook
Adaptation = a trait that aids survival. Physical (body) OR behavioural (action).
😂 Giggle
What did the ecosystem say when one species disappeared?
"Something's missing — I can feel it in my food web!"
😲 Whoa!
An Arctic fox’s fur turns white in winter and brown in summer — a built-in camouflage that flips with the seasons.
✅ Quick check: Bird migration is which kind of adaptation — physical or behavioural?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Behavioural — it’s an ACTION (flying to a better climate) that aids survival, not a body part.
Behavioural adaptations are helpful actions; physical ones are body traits.
