Math Puzzles
📋 What it is
Math puzzles use number rules and logic — often there’s a shortcut once you spot the structure.
🗣️ Coach says
Math puzzles reward looking before leaping. “Add 1 to 100” looks like 100 additions — but pairing 1+100, 2+99… makes fifty 101s = 5050 in seconds. The shortcut hides in the structure.
🧠 Memory hook
Before you grind, look for the pairing or the pattern that skips the work.
😲 Whoa!
Young Carl Gauss reportedly summed 1 to 100 in seconds as a schoolboy by spotting exactly that pairing trick — while his class added one number at a time.
✅ Quick check: What’s a fast way to add 1+2+3+…+10?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Pair them: 1+10, 2+9, 3+8, 4+7, 5+6 = five pairs of 11 = 55. Faster than adding one at a time.
Spotting the equal-sum pairs turns ten additions into one multiplication.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Sum 1 to 20 using the pairing trick (each pair makes 21). Check: how many pairs, times 21?
