WantTots

The same thing can make two friends feel different - because they wanted different things. Rain starts: Jem wanted to stay dry (sad), Pia wanted to splash (excited). WantTots is a warm daily two-friend talk to share with your 3-5-year-old: see two wants and two feelings, then wonder what YOU would want (and what the grown-up wants too). A picture-word to point at, read-aloud help, a printable card - and nothing is ever saved. The first perspective-taking, for grown-ups and little ones together.

Distributed-narrative cast

Meet the cast

WantTots is the first perspective-taking step for pre-readers: a feeling depends on what you WANTED, so the SAME event can make two friends feel different (Wellman's desire->emotion). Nab the magpie notices it over ONE warm two-friend scene for a grown-up and a 3-5 child to share; Jem and Pia want opposite things and feel differently, and both are okay. Nothing is a test, and nothing is ever saved.

N

Nab

Two wants, two feelings (hero) - a magpie who notices that the SAME thing can make two friends feel different, because they wanted different things; the what-did-you-want wonder IS Nab.

J

Jem

One friend's want - a magpie who wants one thing (to stay dry, to keep the tower up); his want leads to his feeling.

P

Pia

The other friend's want - a magpie who wants the opposite (to splash, to build anew); the SAME event, a different feeling, because a different want.

W

Wanda

...and you? - turns to the child: what would YOU want here, and how would you feel? (and the grown-up names their want too - the grown-up-first move).
