Zippy

a fast beat — quick claps close together, zippy and giggly, like a dashing hare

Zippy Loves It Fast

Zippy was a happy hare who could not sit still, and Zippy loved a fast beat best — quick little claps, close together, zip-zip-zip, like tiny raindrops on a tin roof.

The little one clapped quick — clap-clap-clap-clap — and off went Zippy, dashing in tiny hops, ears streaming back, grinning ear to ear. Fast beats feel like giggles and zooms and popcorn popping. There’s a whole burst of energy inside a fast little beat.

But even Zippy knew a secret: fast doesn’t mean wild. The zippiest beat is still even — quick, but tidy, like little footsteps pattering in a neat row. And whenever the little one wanted calm again, Slow-mo was right there for a slow sway. Fast and slow are friends.

The little one and Zippy raced through a zippy little beat, laughing — zip-zip-zip-zip — then flopped down happy. A fast beat is a burst of joy you can clap right out of your hands. Zip zip!

The drumtots ensemble
