For coaches & teachers

Run a chess club — free, calm, and with no student accounts.

The hardest part of a school chess club or class is not the chess — it's the organising. Pairings, standings, a season plan, keeping it fair. Here is a free toolkit that does all of that on the host device, with zero student accounts and nothing collected about any child. Results are hand-carried on a paper receipt, never a login.

Run the club

Run the tournament — it pairs, scores, and keeps the wall-chart

A self-hosted tournament director: round-robin or knockout, on the host device, no accounts. It does the pairings and the standings so you can watch the games. Perfect for a club night or a class ladder.

Teams, not just individuals — everyone can win

Teams-Games-Tournament pairs children at ability-matched tables so a beginner and an expert both have a real game and a real chance to score for their team. Group standings are public; individual rank stays private.

Team format →

A season, not a one-off — the league keeps the story going

A calm league table over a whole term: improvement points, not a fixed leaderboard to chase. Run it across the 30-week outline below, or drop in whenever the club meets.

Fair rulings without an argument — the Arbiter

Touch-move, illegal moves, the clock, a disputed result — the Arbiter walks a young helper through the fair call, so the games stay friendly and you are not the only referee in the room.

The games — one for every age at the table

A club has 5-year-olds and 15-year-olds. Each age band has its own free game on the same real chess engine, so everyone starts where they are.

Ages 3–5

PawnPals — Little Sprouts

Meet the six chess friends: hear each one and see how it moves. Audio-first, no reading needed, made for a grown-up and a little one.

Ages 6–8

PawnPals

Learn how each piece moves in a warm meadow, then play a first game. Big targets, say-it-out-loud rhymes, a real chess engine underneath.

Open PawnPals →
Ages 9–14

GambitTales

The full club game: engine-verified tactics, endgames, openings by principle, board vision, and games with review.

Open GambitTales →
Ages 15–18

RookDojo

For older or stronger players: real games against a human-like opponent, then game review to find the moment it turned.

A 30-week outline (three terms, use as much as you like)

Term 1 — learn to play

How the pieces move, safe kings, simple checkmates. End each week with a friendly unrated game so everyone plays.

Term 2 — play & a gentle ladder

Weekly tactics and a team ladder (ability-matched tables), so a beginner and an expert both have a real game and can score for their team.

Term 3 — a club tournament

A round-robin or knockout the host console runs for you, ending in a calm results card everyone takes home. Add a Girls' Gambit night — a welcoming session for girls new to the club.
