Learn any game — step by step

Pick a game and read a short draft rulebook plus a legal opening: a few real moves, one at a time. Every move here is drawn from the same deterministic engine that referees the game on Play, so it is always a legal move — never a made-up one.

Alquerque

Ancient Near East, later medieval Iberia · played by ~1400 BCE; carved into temple roofs in Egypt

The ancient ancestor of checkers: jump your way across a 5×5 web of lines.

🧩 Setup

A board of 25 connected points, pieces placed at the start.

🔄 How a turn works

On your turn, move a piece one step along a line; capture by jumping an adjacent enemy to the empty point beyond (and keep jumping if you can). Capturing is compulsory when it is available.

🏆 How to win

Win by capturing every enemy piece — or by leaving the other side with no legal move.

A legal opening — 4 moves the engine allows

  1. step Amber: slide a piece one step along a line to an empty point.
  2. capture Blue: capture an enemy piece.
  3. capture Amber: capture an enemy piece.
  4. step Blue: slide a piece one step along a line to an empty point.

This is a draft rulebook and one legal opening, derived from the game's own engine — a starting point for learning, not the last word. Many traditional games have local variants; play the full game on Play. Nothing about your play leaves your device.
