- Narrator: From Spark and Anvil and BluffForge — this is Pricetag, in chapter 1 of the BluffForge cast.
- Narrator: This drama uses an AI-generated voice. Voiced via Gemini 2.5.
- Narrator: Forty pieces stand in a Red army. This is the story of one of them: a little runner, a 2.
- Runner: I'm the fastest piece on the board. I can run as far as I like in a straight line. I'm also one of the weakest.
- Narrator: That evening, a Blue piece had sent two of Red's pieces home, and nobody knew what it was.
- Red Piece: Send the 8! The 8 is strong!
- Pricetag: It beat a 6 and a 7. So it's at least an 8. Our 8 would lose to their 9 or their 10, and we'd only learn the answer.
- Pricetag: There's a cheaper way to learn it.
- Runner: He looked at me.
- Pricetag: We have eight runners. If you go, we lose very little. And whatever happens, we'll see exactly what that piece is.
- Runner: I knew I'd probably lose. But I also knew what I was for.
- Narrator: The runner raced across the board and met the Blue piece. Both turned over.
- Runner: It was Ursa! The 10! I went straight home.
- Pricetag: Now we know. And Puck is two squares away from her.
- Narrator: Two turns later, tiny Puck reached Ursa first, and the strongest piece on the board went home.
- Runner: I didn't win my meeting. But I bought the most useful fact in the game.
- Narrator: Pay with the cheapest piece that still buys the answer. That's the runner's story.
- Narrator: You've been listening to a Spark and Anvil chapter, written by the Spark and Anvil writing team for ages 9 to 14.
