About BuddyQuest

BuddyQuest lets a child ages 9–14 become a reading coach for Poco, a younger reader. Poco tries a word and gets a little stuck, and you pick the best way to help — say the sound, model the blend, tap it out, or cheer the strategy.

Coaching a sound is one of the best ways to lock it in for yourself — that’s the protégé effect. And you never just tell Poco the word; you help them read it. Learning to help without handing over the answer is the most important tutoring habit there is.

It is part of our open Sound Road reading sequence: Poco only ever reads words the Sound Road has already taught, so you never coach a word a young reader could only guess.

Everything is calm: no score, no streak, no timer, nothing to buy. Everything runs on this device — there are no accounts, and nothing anyone does leaves the device. Print a session card and run it with a younger buddy for real.

Honest note for grown-ups: BuddyQuest is coaching practice, not a promise of a reading level. It builds tutoring habits and tends to strengthen the coach’s own reading, and it works best alongside lots of real books read together.
