BuilderTots — for grown-ups

BuilderTots is a first building game for ages 3–5. There’s nothing to read, no score, and no way to lose — just Timber the beaver and a workshop of things to make from parts. Here is the whole game:

  • See the recipe — Timber shows the thing he wants to build and its little recipe — for example, a birdhouse needs 2 logs and 1 leaf. The empty slots show exactly how many of each part are needed.
  • Gather the parts — Your child taps a pile — logs, stones, or leaves — to gather one at a time. Each tap fills a slot and Timber counts it out loud: “one more log — two logs.” When a part has enough, tapping it again just says “we have enough logs!” — nothing goes wrong.
  • Build it! — The Build button lights up only when the recipe is complete — so your child gathers everything first (a first taste of waiting for the whole set). Tap Build and the thing pops onto the shelf.
  • Fill the workshop — Build all five things and the workshop is full. There is no score and no way to lose — every recipe can always be finished.

What it’s building

Three of the earliest maths ideas, all through play: quantity (how many of each part — two logs, one leaf), “one more” and “enough” (each tap adds one; a full pile can’t take more), and the very first taste of waiting for the whole set before you can build. It also shows things made from things — a boat is made of logs, a nest of leaves — the seed of recipes, part-and-whole, and the “gather to build” idea our bigger island games grow into.

Good to know: every recipe can always be finished, so no one ever gets stuck, and a wrong tap is just a chance to hear the number again. Everything runs on your device — there is no account, no tracking, and nothing about your child’s play leaves it. BuilderTots makes no exam or skill claim; it’s a gentle first game with numbers.
