A standard deck has 52 cards: 4 suits (♠♥♦♣) of 13 ranks each (A, 2–10, J, Q, K).

Before any card math, know the deck cold: 4 suits, 13 ranks, 52 cards total — and 26 red, 26 black. Two suits are red (hearts, diamonds), two are black (spades, clubs). Almost every odds question starts from "how many of THAT card are in 52?"
