Mission 2 of 16

Strategy & Game Theory

📋 What it is

A good strategy weighs what YOU can do against what your opponent is likely to do — thinking ahead, not just reacting.

🗣️ Coach says

Strategy in cards isn’t luck — it’s planning. You track what has been played, guess what others hold, and pick the move that stays strong no matter what they do. That "no matter what they do" idea is the seed of game theory.

🧠 Memory hook

Play the ODDS, not the hope. Ask: "what is the move that works even if my opponent plays their best?"

😂 Giggle

Why was the queen of hearts such a good baker?
She always knew how to make a great hand!

😲 Whoa!

Game theory won a Nobel Prize and helps decide everything from card games to how countries negotiate — it started partly by studying poker.

✅ Quick check: You can win now with a risky play, or set up a sure win next turn. What does a strategic player consider first?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Play any 2-player card game and, before each move, say your plan out loud and one thing your opponent might do.

🤸 Brain break: Think-ahead breath: breathe in on "my move", out on "their move", in on "my next move".
