Mission 10 of 16

Game Design & Creation

📋 What it is

Designing a card game means choosing rules that are fair, clear, and fun — balancing luck and skill.

🗣️ Coach says

Making your own game is applied math. You decide how much is luck (the shuffle) vs skill (the choices), how a player wins, and whether every player has a fair shot. Good design tests these with real play and adjusts the numbers.

🧠 Memory hook

Every game = luck knob + skill knob + a clear win. Design is tuning those knobs until it’s fair AND fun.

😂 Giggle

Why did the joker get kicked out of the game?
It kept making wild claims!

😲 Whoa!

Uno was invented in 1971 by a barber who couldn’t agree with his son on Crazy Eights rules — so he designed his own game.

✅ Quick check: What two ingredients does a game designer balance to keep a card game fun?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Invent a tiny card game using only Aces–fives (20 cards). Write one win condition and play it once.

🤸 Brain break: Rule doodle: sketch a quick icon for "your turn", "skip", and "win" — design is also visual.
