Animal Habitats & Adaptations
📋 What it is
Animals are adapted to their habitats — bodies and behaviours that fit where they live.
🗣️ Coach says
A habitat is an animal’s home, providing food, water, shelter and space. Over time, animals ADAPT to their habitat — a camel’s hump for desert, a polar bear’s thick fur for cold, webbed feet for water. The adaptation and the habitat fit together like a key in a lock.
🧠 Memory hook
Habitat = an animal’s home (food/water/shelter). Adaptations = body/behaviour that FIT the habitat.
😂 Giggle
Why did the sick bird go to the vet?
Because it had a case of the flew!
😲 Whoa!
A camel can drink over 100 litres of water in minutes and go weeks without more — a desert adaptation as extreme as the environment it survives.
✅ Quick check: What is an "adaptation"?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
A body feature or behaviour that helps an animal survive in its particular habitat.
Adaptations match animals to their environments.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Pick an animal and name one adaptation that fits its habitat (fish gills, bird wings, camel hump).
