Beginner Solving Method
📋 What it is
The beginner (layer-by-layer) method solves the cube in stages: cross, first layer, middle, last layer.
🗣️ Coach says
The friendliest way to solve is layer by layer. First make a "cross" on one face, then fill in its corners (first layer done), then the four middle edges, then finish the last layer in a couple of steps. Each stage uses just a few short algorithms — learn them one at a time and the whole cube falls into place.
🧠 Memory hook
Cross → first-layer corners → middle edges → last layer. One stage at a time.
😂 Giggle
Why did the algorithm refuse to change?
It had a very specific set of moves and it was sticking to them!
😲 Whoa!
The layer-by-layer method is how nearly every solver starts — even world champions began here before learning faster methods; the ideas never really go away.
✅ Quick check: What is the FIRST stage of the beginner layer-by-layer method?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Making a cross on one face (usually the white cross) — the foundation before solving that layer's corners.
The beginner method starts with the first-face cross.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Learn just the first stage — make a cross on one face — and get that far on a real cube.
