Contradiction & Proof
📋 What it is
Proving something by showing the opposite leads to an impossible result (a contradiction).
🗣️ Coach says
Sometimes the fastest way to prove "it must be A" is to pretend it’s NOT A and watch everything break. If assuming the opposite creates nonsense, the original must be true.
🧠 Memory hook
Assume the opposite. If it explodes, you were right all along.
😂 Giggle
Why did the code-breaker keep notes?
Because forgetting a clue is like handing the code back its secret!
😲 Whoa!
Mathematicians call this "proof by contradiction" — some of the most famous proofs in history (like "there’s no biggest prime number") work exactly this way.
✅ Quick check: You assume "the treasure is in room B," and that forces two clues to disagree. What do you conclude?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
The treasure is NOT in room B — the contradiction proves the assumption was false.
If an assumption forces an impossibility, the assumption itself must be wrong.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Pick a claim ("all my socks are blue"). Assume it’s true, then hunt for ONE example that breaks it. Finding one disproves the claim.
