Testing a Hypothesis
📋 What it is
You test a hypothesis by running an experiment whose result could support OR reject it.
🗣️ Coach says
A test only counts if it could go either way. Run the experiment, look at what actually happens, and let the result — not your hope — decide. Being wrong is useful data.
🧠 Memory hook
A fair test can DISPROVE you. If it can only agree, it’s not a test.
😂 Giggle
Why did the inference feel powerful?
Because it figured out what nobody actually told it!
😲 Whoa!
The best scientists get excited when an experiment proves them wrong — that’s where the real discoveries hide.
✅ Quick check: Your experiment gives the opposite of what you predicted. Is that a failure?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
No — it’s valuable evidence that your hypothesis was wrong, which tells you something true about the world.
A result that rejects a hypothesis is a successful test; it moves your understanding forward.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Test one "if… then…" from the last mission for real. Write your prediction first, then the actual result, then compare.
