Ideas Travel

📋 What it is

Cultures have always borrowed styles from each other through trade and contact — that exchange is normal and often beautiful. The respectful question is HOW: borrowing WITH credit, understanding, and permission is exchange; taking a sacred or meaningful design without understanding or credit can be appropriation.

🗣️ Coach says

Ideas SHOULD travel — that’s how culture grows. The skill is doing it with respect: learn what something means, credit where it came from, and never treat a sacred design as a costume. Curiosity plus respect is the whole rule.

🧠 Memory hook

Exchange with credit + understanding = good; taking meaningful designs without either = not.

😲 Whoa!

Many everyday styles are the result of centuries of respectful exchange — buttons, certain weaves, and dye techniques crossed cultures and enriched everyone who shared them.

🤸 Brain break: Pass-with-thanks: hand an imaginary gift to a neighbour and say “thank you, this is from…” before they accept.
