Darwin’s faces
In 1872 Charles Darwin published The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals, one of the first science books to use photographs, to study how faces show feelings. He wrote about the small muscles that pull the inner ends of the brows up and together in sadness — he called them the “grief-muscles”. It is the same inner-brow lift these faces use.
