Round 3 of 16

The Elephant (Minister)

📋 What it is

The Elephant moves exactly two points diagonally and can NEVER cross the river — it only defends its own half.

🗣️ Coach says

The Elephant is a pure defender. It jumps two points diagonally (in an X shape) but is blocked if the middle point is occupied, and — crucially — it can never cross the river. So the Elephant guards your own half only; it is a shield, not a spear.

🧠 Memory hook

Elephant = two-step diagonal, stuck on its own side of the river. A shield, not a sword.

😂 Giggle

Why did the Elephant stay on its own side?
Because Elephants can never cross the river!

😲 Whoa!

Because the Elephant can't cross the river, each side has exactly seven defensive squares its Elephants can ever reach — a small, predictable defensive net.

✅ Quick check: Can the Elephant cross the river to help attack the enemy?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Move an Elephant two points diagonally a few times and confirm the river always stops it.

🤸 Brain break: X-jump: draw a small X in the air (two-step diagonal) — the Elephant's only move.
