Points, Lines & Angles
📋 What it is
A point marks a spot, a line goes on forever, and an angle measures the turn between two rays.
🗣️ Coach says
Geometry starts with three tiny ideas: a point (just a spot), a line (straight, forever both ways), and an angle (how much you turn from one ray to another). Everything else is built from these — get comfy with them and the rest clicks.
🧠 Memory hook
A right angle is a square corner = 90°. Straight across = 180°. All the way round = 360°.
😂 Giggle
Why was the geometry book so sad?
It had too many problems!
😲 Whoa!
A full turn is 360° because ancient Babylonians counted in 60s and split a circle into 360 — roughly the days in a year.
✅ Quick check: Two rays make a square corner. How many degrees is that angle?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
90° — a right angle.
A right angle is exactly a quarter turn, and a full turn is 360°, so 360 ÷ 4 = 90.
🪄 Trick question: An angle bigger than 90° but smaller than 180° — is it acute or obtuse?
Careful — think it through, then reveal.
Obtuse.
Acute is under 90° (small/sharp); obtuse is over 90° (wide) but under a straight 180°.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Find three right angles in your room (a book corner, a window, a door). Trace each corner with your finger.
