Round 8 of 16

Hex Strategy

📋 What it is

Hex strategy uses "bridges" — two pieces spaced so they’re safely connected even if the opponent tries to cut between.

🗣️ Coach says

The core Hex tool is the BRIDGE: place two pieces a hex apart so there are TWO ways to link them. If the opponent blocks one gap, you take the other. Bridges build strong, unbreakable paths fast.

🧠 Memory hook

Bridges = two pieces, two ways to link. Cut one, take the other.

😂 Giggle

Why did the corner square feel powerful in Reversi?
Because once you're in a corner, nobody can flip you!

😲 Whoa!

The "bridge" pattern is so central that strong Hex players think in bridges rather than single moves.

✅ Quick check: Why is a "bridge" of two pieces safer than placing them directly touching?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Draw two dots one hex apart and show the two squares that would connect them.

🤸 Brain break: Build a bridge: link two fists with an arch, then "reroute" if one side is blocked.
