Round 13 of 16

Parity & The Chain Rule

📋 What it is

In Dots-&-Boxes, counting chains and using parity (odd/even) lets you control who’s forced to open the last chain.

🗣️ Coach says

The endgame secret is PARITY — controlling whether the number of long chains is odd or even so your OPPONENT is forced to open the first one. Whoever opens the last long chain usually loses. Count and control.

🧠 Memory hook

Control chain parity → make THEM open the last chain. Counting wins.

😂 Giggle

Why was the diagonal so sneaky?
Because opponents watch rows and columns but forget to look sideways!

😲 Whoa!

The "double-cross" + chain rule can flip a Dots-&-Boxes game an amateur thinks is already lost.

✅ Quick check: In Dots-&-Boxes, why does whoever is forced to OPEN the last long chain usually lose?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Draw a board with two long chains and work out who is forced to open the first one.

🤸 Brain break: Odd or even: flash an odd number of fingers, then even — parity in a snap.
