IsleTots — for grown-ups
IsleTots is the very first building game, for ages 3–5. A child grows a little hex island one friendly tile at a time. It is the gentle heart of building: a tile has to touch the ones already there, and tiles fit together with no gaps. Here is the whole game in five gentle ideas:
- Grow the island — Coral’s island starts as one little home. Tap a glowing spot to add a tile, and a new friend moves in.
- A tile has to touch — You can only add a tile next to a tile that is already there — it fits snug against the island. You can never drop a lonely tile out in the sea.
- Six friends is cozy — When a tile has all six friends around it, it goes cozy! That is the fun of fitting tiles together — the middle ones end up surrounded.
- The outline shows the way — A faint outline shows the whole island shape. You fill it in, one tile at a time — there is no rush and no clock.
- Fill the whole island — When every tile is home, the island is cozy and Coral is happy! You cannot lose — you can only make the cove cozier.
Why this, at 3–5
Between about three and five, children love to fit things together — snapping blocks, arranging tiles, filling a shape. IsleTots turns that into the friendly start of building a world: every tile must touch the island (that is adjacency), and the tiles tessellate — they fit with no gaps, so the middle ones end up surrounded by six neighbours (that is the cozy six-neighbour moment). There is no counting to read, no timer, and no way to lose: the child can only ever make the island bigger and cozier, so a tap is always a happy one.
