About LexForge
LexForge is the dictionary as a courtroom. Most people think a dictionary is a list of "allowed" words handed down by an authority. Modern lexicography works the other way around: dictionaries record how people actually use language, with labels for register. That idea is called descriptivism — and it's what LexForge lets you practise, one case at a time.
Evidence, not gut feeling
A word earns a dictionary entry through evidence: is it used, by many people, over time, with a settled meaning? That's why selfie and podcast are in the dictionary despite being new, why irregardless is in the dictionary but flagged nonstandard, and why a fine-sounding invention like glorptastic is not a word at all. How a word sounds is no evidence either way.
What it's good for (and what we don't claim)
LexForge is good practice for vocabulary, register (formal vs informal), and understanding how language is recorded and changes. It is not a brain-training program, and we make no claim it raises IQ or test scores. Every ruling here reflects a real, documented lexicographic status — an honest look at how the dictionary is actually made.
