Build-a-Bot

Design a bot for the eight-piece hidden-army game. You don’t write code — you decide how much it cares about each habit below. Then it plays three built-in bots, twenty games each, half of them as each side. It sees only what a player could see: for pieces it hasn’t met, it imagines possible armies and averages over them.

Your bot

Things to notice

  • A bot with no habits loses almost everything. Set every habit to 0 and play — that baseline is what the habits are worth.
  • The quietest opponent can be the easiest to beat. Sharp is the strongest built-in bot against the others, but it adds almost no randomness, so a recipe that suits it wins again and again. Predictable play is exploitable — the same lesson as Exploit Me on the Imperfect page.
  • Twenty games is still a small sample. Play the same recipe twice and the scores move. Compare changes over several runs before you trust them.
  • Your recipe stays on this device. Share it as its eight-digit code.

This is a small bot on purpose: it looks one move ahead, on eight pieces, with your choices. Strong game-playing programs search far deeper — and still have to guess about pieces they cannot see.
