Round 9 of 16

Blots, Safety & Risk

📋 What it is

Every move trades safety against speed; sometimes you leave a blot on purpose because the reward beats the risk.

🗣️ Coach says

You cannot always play safe. Making a key point or racing ahead often means leaving a blot the enemy MIGHT hit. Good players weigh it: how likely is the hit, and how bad is it if it lands? Sometimes a risky move is the RIGHT move.

🧠 Memory hook

Safe isn't always best. Weigh "how likely to be hit?" against "how much do I gain?"

😂 Giggle

Why did the anchor feel secure?
Because holding a point deep in the opponent's home gives you a safe base!

😲 Whoa!

Top players deliberately leave blots all the time — the goal is not zero risk, it is the best BALANCE of risk and reward.

✅ Quick check: When might it be worth leaving a blot the opponent could hit?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Take one position and find both the safe move and a bolder one. Judge which risk is worth taking and why.
