Mission 1 of 16

Introduction to Ratios

📋 What it is

A ratio compares two quantities — "3 to 2" means 3 of one for every 2 of the other.

🗣️ Coach says

A ratio is a comparison. "2 cups of flour to 1 cup of sugar" is the ratio 2:1. It doesn't tell you the total — it tells you the relationship, the recipe. Ratios are everywhere you mix or compare.

🧠 Memory hook

A ratio compares, it doesn't total. 2:1 means "2 for every 1", at any size.

😂 Giggle

Why did the ratio go to the party?
Because it heard there'd be a 1:1 match on the dance floor!

😲 Whoa!

A single recipe ratio can make a batch for 4 or 400 — the ratio stays the same, only the amounts scale.

✅ Quick check: A fruit bowl has 6 apples and 3 oranges. What is the apple-to-orange ratio, simplified?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Count two things around you (pens to pencils) and write their ratio, then simplify it.

🤸 Brain break: Ratio-hands: hold up 2 fingers and 1 finger, and say "two for every one".
