Mission 8 of 16

Proportional Reasoning

📋 What it is

Spot when a situation is proportional and use ratios to solve it.

🗣️ Coach says

Proportional reasoning is knowing WHEN to use a ratio. If two things grow together at a constant rate (more hours → proportionally more pay), set up a proportion. Recognising proportionality is half the battle.

🧠 Memory hook

If doubling one doubles the other, it's proportional — set up a ratio and scale.

😂 Giggle

Why did the baker love proportions?
Because everything in life is better when properly measured out!

😲 Whoa!

Cooks, chemists and engineers all "reason proportionally" daily — scaling a formula up or down without changing its balance.

✅ Quick check: 3 workers build a wall in a set time; is "6 workers, half the time" proportional reasoning?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

If 2 pizzas feed 6 people, use a proportion to find how many feed 15.

🤸 Brain break: Scale-tilt: tip an imaginary balance and rebalance it by scaling both sides.
