RollTots — for grown-ups
RollTots is a first counting game for ages 3–5. There’s nothing to read, no score, and no way to lose — just Puff the frog and a pond of sleepy lily-pads. Here is the whole game:
- Roll the die — Your child taps the big “Roll!” button. The die shows some dots — one to six. Puff says the number out loud, so no reading is needed.
- Count the dots — How many dots? Count them together — or, over time, just SEE how many at a glance (that’s called subitizing, and it’s the foundation of number sense).
- Find the matching pad — Each lily-pad has a different number of fish. Your child taps the pad whose fish match the die. Puff cheers and counts the fish aloud — one, two, three!
- Wake up the whole pond — A wrong tap never loses — Puff just says which pad that was and points back to the right number. When all six pads are awake, the pond is full of happy fish.
What it’s building
Two of the earliest maths ideas: counting (one-to-one — saying one number for each fish) and subitizing (seeing “how many” at a glance, the way we read a die without counting). Matching the die’s dots to a pad’s fish also builds cardinality — that “three” means the same amount whether it’s dots or fish. All of it happens through play, out loud, at your child’s pace.
