Capturing
📋 What it is
In many versions, landing your last seed in an empty pit on your side captures it plus the seeds opposite.
🗣️ Coach says
The big scoring move (rules vary by version, but this is the classic Kalah capture): if your LAST seed lands in an empty pit on YOUR side, you capture that seed AND all the seeds in the pit directly across from it, sweeping them into your store. Aiming your last seed at an empty pit opposite a full one is how you score big.
🧠 Memory hook
Last seed → your empty pit → grab it AND everything opposite. Aim carefully.

Why is capturing in Oware like a good harvest?
You gather two or three at a time when the timing is just right!
😲 Whoa!
A single well-aimed capture can scoop up a whole pile of enemy seeds at once — the biggest swings in the game come from landing that last seed in exactly the right empty pit.
✅ Quick check: In the classic capture rule, what must your LAST seed do to capture?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Land in an EMPTY pit on your own side — then you take that seed plus all the seeds in the pit directly opposite.
The classic capture triggers on a last seed landing in your own empty pit.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Set an empty pit on your side opposite a full enemy pit, then sow so your last seed lands there. Capture!
