Round 9 of 16

Building To A Target

📋 What it is

You can deliberately grow a pit to an exact seed count so that sowing it lands on a capturing square.

🗣️ Coach says

Great players don't just react — they BUILD. By choosing not to empty a pit for a few turns, you let it grow to exactly the seed count that will land your last seed on a capture (or in your store for an extra turn). Setting up the perfect-count pit is planning several moves ahead.

🧠 Memory hook

Grow a pit to the exact count you need, then release it for the capture.

😂 Giggle

Why is a big pile in one pit exciting?
Because when you finally sow it, those seeds go on quite a journey!

😲 Whoa!

Deciding WHEN to release a built-up pit is a key skill — release too early and it misses; too late and the opponent empties the target first.

✅ Quick check: Why might you deliberately leave a pit alone for several turns?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Pick a target capture square, count how many seeds a pit needs to reach it, and grow the pit to that count.

🤸 Brain break: Grow-then-go: hold up more fingers each "turn," then release toward the target.
