Round 13 of 16

Midgame Planning

📋 What it is

In the midgame you balance building capture threats with protecting your own seeds and reading the opponent.

🗣️ Coach says

The middle of the game is a balancing act. You want to build pits toward captures and extra turns, but also keep your big piles safe and watch the opponent's threats. Every move should do at least one useful thing — score, threaten, defend, or set up. Aimless sowing just feeds the enemy.

🧠 Memory hook

Every midgame move should score, threaten, defend, or set up. Never sow aimlessly.

Why is Oware like a good conversation?
You give a little, you take a little, and you always leave room to reply!

😲 Whoa!

The midgame is where most games are decided — a player who keeps every move purposeful slowly builds a store lead the opponent can't catch.

✅ Quick check: What should every midgame move try to accomplish?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Play the midgame and give each move a one-word reason (score/threaten/defend/build). Spot any aimless move.

🤸 Brain break: Purpose-tap: tap score, threaten, defend, build before each move — a reason every time.
