About ShiftForge

ShiftForge runs the two-process model of sleep regulation — the standard scientific picture of why you feel alert or sleepy — on a schedule you choose.

  • Process S (sleep pressure) builds the whole time you’re awake and drains while you sleep, like a battery.
  • Process C (circadian rhythm) is a ~24-hour wave from your body clock: lowest around 4am, high in the afternoon, with a small mid-afternoon dip.

You feel sharp when Process C is high and pressure is low; you feel worst when a circadian low meets high pressure — the classic afternoon crash after a short night. Teens need about 9 hours; every hour short adds to a running sleep debt that a weekend lie-in can’t fully repay. The biggest levers — a later school start, an earlier screen-free bedtime — both work by giving Process S more time to drain, and you can test each one against the model.

The schedules you can model: Early school start (7:30 bell) · Late screens, late sleep · A well-rested week (9 h).

Not medical advice. ShiftForge is a simplified teaching model of a real scientific theory — it shows how the mechanism works. It is not a diagnosis, not a sleep tracker, and it records nothing: everything runs on this device.
