Card Math & Shuffling

A deck's composition sets the odds of each draw; shuffling randomises the order so no one can predict it.

Card games run on counting. If a 40-card deck has 10 red cards, your chance of drawing red is 10-in-40, or 1-in-4. Shuffling matters because it makes the order unpredictable — a good shuffle means fair, random draws. Designers tune a deck's make-up to hit the odds they want.

It takes about SEVEN good riffle shuffles to properly randomise a 52-card deck — fewer than that and the old order still peeks through.
