Descriptive writing uses sensory detail to make a scene vivid and real.

Description brings a scene to life. Instead of "the room was messy", show it: "clothes draped the chair, crumbs freckled the desk". Using the senses makes readers SEE, HEAR and FEEL your world.

Show with the senses. "Messy room" → "crumbs freckled the desk". Specific beats vague.

Studies show vivid, sensory descriptions light up the same brain areas as actually seeing the thing.
✅ Quick check: Which is stronger description: "the dog was scary" or "the dog's lips peeled back, a low growl rattling its chest"?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
The second — it shows fear through sensory detail instead of stating it.
Sensory "showing" is more vivid than a plain label.
