Heads up: this browser isn't saving anything for this site, so progress and settings reset when you leave the page. Everything still works while you're here.
Some of TerraWatch’s cast are still learning. When you teach them, YOU learn it best — catch what they get wrong, then quiz them.
Teach Note
You be the teacher — Note is still learning. Helping Note figure it out is the practice. (Note's progress stays on this device; nothing is sent anywhere.)
🎓 In a minute you'll be the teacher. Get ready to teach Note: fact vs. inference.
A field record separates what you saw from what you think it means. 'The robin pulled a worm' is an observation; 'it was hungry' is an inference.
You've helped them one at a time. The real understanding is how the ideas CONNECT — teach that next.
Spot (observation — look once, then look again, slower; the second look finds more) ×Note (structured recording — write what you saw, then what you think it means, and do not mix them)
You see a bird pecking bark and jot 'the bird is hungry.' What do Spot and Note say went wrong?
Spot then says: “It is fine to write down your interpretation as if it were the observation itself.” — is that right?
The link: notice carefully, then record what you saw apart from what you think.
See it, then write the fact and the guess apart.
Census (biodiversity counting — one bird is a moment; ten birds over ten days is a pattern) ×Trend (change over time — today is one dot; many dots make a line)
You want to know if a bird population is declining. Why do Census and Trend need each other?
Census then says: “You can prove a population is declining from a single count on a single day.” — is that right?
The link: the trend line is built from the repeated counts — dots make the line.
Count again and again, and the line appears.
Capstone — run one field study together
Three habits of a field scientist. Bring in the cast member for each.
Notice carefully — look once, then look again slower. Who?
Who do you bring in?
Record it without mixing fact and guess. Who?
Who do you bring in?
Count repeatedly to find a pattern. Who?
Who do you bring in?
The synthesis: notice slowly, record cleanly, and count patiently — and your dot helps bend the line toward hope.
