TongueQuest

A saying means more than its words.

✏️ Start our phrase book →

Three layers of a saying

  • How it sounds at home — the saying in your family’s language, spelled the way your family spells it.
  • Word-for-word — what each word literally says. This is where translations go wrong.
  • What it really means — what your family means when they say it, and when they use it.

Ask a parent, grandparent or older cousin for three sayings and ten everyday words. TongueQuest never generates a translation — you and your family are the experts — and nothing is recorded or sent anywhere. The phrase book is a file you keep and can share.

The phrase-book crew

  • Literalla — reads every word exactly — and keeps missing the point.
  • Truemean — knows what the family really means.
  • Scrollkeep — writes it all down so it isn’t lost.
  • Bà Mây — (mentor) — asks “when does your family say that?”

TongueQuest is the 9–14 rung of the Home-Tongue family: TongueTots · TonguePals · TongueQuest · TongueDojo share one list of your family’s words.
