BasketPals — for grown-ups
BasketPals is a push-your-luck dice game for ages 6–8. Pika stacks hay for winter, and your child decides — again and again — whether to gather a little more or bank what they have. Here is the whole game:
- Gather — Tap Gather to roll the two dice. Count the dots and add them up — that many hay bundles go into your round-basket. Keep gathering to make it bigger…
- Watch for the 7 — A 7 is the most likely roll — there are more ways to make 7 than any other number. Roll a 7 and the basket TIPS: this turn’s hay spills. So the longer you push, the riskier it gets.
- Bank — Tap Bank to move your round-basket safely onto your haypile — that hay is now yours for good. Bank early and you keep a little; push your luck and you might keep a lot… or tip.
- The meadow shares — Spilled hay never wastes — it lands in the shared meadow, and whoever banks next scoops it up too. Your haypile is never touched, so there’s no losing, just choosing.
What it’s building
A first, hands-on feel for likelihood and expected value: because a 7 has the most ways to be made (6 of the 36 two-dice outcomes), it comes up most — so the more you push, the more likely the basket tips (about a 42% chance within three rolls). Children discover this by playing, not by being told, and they practise a real decision: the small sure thing now, or the bigger risky one. It’s the gentle cousin of our older probability games — the same two dice, felt as a choice.
