For grown-ups
BraidPals is a first look at proteins, the tiny shapes that do jobs inside us, without any characters for the molecules themselves. First your child braids three strands of wool into a rope and feels how strong three together are. Collagen, in skin and tendons, is three chains twisted like that.
Then six real proteins are matched to their jobs by shape: collagen is a rope, aquaporin a tunnel for water, an antibody a Y-shaped grabber, kinesin a stepper on a track, trypsin scissors that cut food proteins, haemoglobin a carrier for oxygen.
The pictures are simple drawings, and the app says so. Each protein has one honest line, and no protein "wants" or "tries" anything: shapes work because of what they are, not because they choose.
