Probability Basics
📋 What it is
Probability is favourable outcomes ÷ total outcomes, ranging from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain).
🗣️ Coach says
Probability measures how likely something is, from 0 (never) to 1 (always). For a fair setup it's just "wanted outcomes ÷ all outcomes". Rolling a 6 on a die: 1 wanted ÷ 6 total = 1/6.
🧠 Memory hook
P = wanted ÷ total. 0 = impossible, 1 = certain, ½ = fifty-fifty.
😂 Giggle
Why was the median the most popular number in the class?
Because it was always right in the middle of everything!
😲 Whoa!
A coin flip isn't perfectly 50-50 in real life — it slightly favours the side facing up when you flip it.
✅ Quick check: What is the probability of rolling a 3 on a fair six-sided die?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
1/6 — one wanted outcome out of six equally likely ones.
Probability is favourable outcomes divided by total outcomes.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Flip a coin 10 times and record heads/tails. How close to 5-5 did you get?
