A regular checker moves one square forward along a diagonal — never straight, never sideways, never backward.

Checkers lives on the dark squares only, and a plain piece only walks forward on the diagonal, one square at a time. If you ever picture a piece going straight ahead, stop — that is a chess habit, not a draughts one.

A checkers board is the SAME 8×8 board as chess, but the whole game happens on just 32 squares — half the board never gets touched.
