Heads up: this browser isn't saving anything for this site, so progress and settings reset when you leave the page. Everything still works while you're here.
Some of CrownTales’s cast are still learning. When you teach them, YOU learn it best — catch what they get wrong, then quiz them.
Teach Prong
You be the teacher — Prong is still learning. Helping Prong figure it out is the practice. (Prong's progress stays on this device; nothing is sent anywhere.)
🎓 In a minute you'll be the teacher. Get ready to teach Prong: the fork.
A fork is one move that attacks two enemy pieces at once. They can only save one, so you win the other.
You've helped them one at a time. The real understanding is how the ideas CONNECT — teach that next.
Leapford (the forced capture — a man captures by leaping a neighbour, and must) ×Skipjack (the multi-jump chain — capturing several pieces in one turn)
Your piece jumps one enemy and lands where it can jump another. Why must it keep going (Skipjack)?
Leapford then says: “After my piece captures once, I can always choose to stop there.” — is that right?
The link: the forced-capture rule is what turns one leap into a chain — Leapford makes Skipjack.
One forced leap sets up the next — the chain runs.
Slant (diagonal movement — an ordinary man steps one square diagonally, forward only) ×Kingsley (crowning — a man that reaches the far row becomes a king that moves both ways)
A man reaches the last row and becomes a king. What exactly does Kingsley change about Slant's movement?
Slant then says: “A crowned king moves the same way as an ordinary man — forward diagonals only.” — is that right?
The link: crowning extends the diagonal step both ways — Kingsley upgrades Slant.
Reach the far row, and the step goes both ways.
Capstone — play one checkers endgame together
Three rules, one endgame. Bring in the cast member for each.
A man leaps over a neighbour to capture — and must. Who?
Who do you bring in?
Reach the far row and become a king that moves both ways. Who?
Who do you bring in?
Control who is forced to move in the endgame. Who?
Who do you bring in?
The synthesis: capture by force, crown your men, and win the tempo battle — the shape of a checkers endgame.
