Round 10 of 16

Turkish Draughts

📋 What it is

In Turkish draughts pieces move and capture orthogonally (straight, not diagonal) and use all 64 squares.

🗣️ Coach says

Not every draughts is diagonal! Turkish draughts (Dama) moves pieces forward and sideways in straight lines, on ALL 64 squares. Its kings are flying kings that slide any distance straight. Same "jump to capture" idea, a totally different geometry.

🧠 Memory hook

Turkish = straight lines, all 64 squares. Same jumps, new roads.

😂 Giggle

Why did the newly crowned king celebrate?
Because now it could chase pieces in every direction!

😲 Whoa!

Turkish draughts is popular across the Middle East and North Africa — proof that "the same game" can be built on completely different movement rules.

✅ Quick check: How does movement in Turkish draughts differ from standard checkers?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Slide a coin straight forward and sideways (never diagonal) to feel the Turkish geometry, then compare to standard.

🤸 Brain break: Straight-lines: march forward, then step sideways — no slants allowed in this one.
