Round 14 of 16

King-and-King Endings

📋 What it is

Two kings usually cannot defeat one king that reaches a corner — many king endings are theoretical draws.

🗣️ Coach says

When the board empties to just a few kings, you have to KNOW the result, not guess. Two kings can beat one only by driving it away from the safe corners; if the lone king reaches a double corner first, it is often a draw. These positions are worked out, not improvised.

🧠 Memory hook

Few pieces = memory game. Learn the standard king endings; do not reinvent them.

😂 Giggle

Why did the checker like company?
Because two checkers side by side protect each other!

😲 Whoa!

Because there are so few pieces, computers have SOLVED every king ending perfectly — the "right answer" for any of them is known with certainty.

✅ Quick check: Can two kings ALWAYS beat one king in checkers?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Play out two kings vs one: first let the lone king reach the corner (draw), then stop it early (win).

🤸 Brain break: Two-vs-one: use two fingers to "herd" one finger away from a corner — that is the whole technique.
