Mission 9 of 16

Life Science

📋 What it is

Living things share traits: they grow, use energy, respond to their environment, and reproduce.

🗣️ Coach says

How do you know if something’s alive? Living things all grow, take in energy, react to their surroundings, and can make more of themselves. A rock does none of these; a plant does all four.

🧠 Memory hook

Alive = grows + uses energy + responds + reproduces. All four, or it’s not living.

😂 Giggle

Why did the sun go to school?
To get a little brighter!

😲 Whoa!

There are more bacteria living on and in your body than there are human cells — you’re a walking ecosystem.

✅ Quick check: A candle flame “grows”, uses energy, and moves. Is it alive?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Look at three things (a plant, a toy, a pet). For each, check the four signs of life. Which pass all four?

🤸 Brain break: Four-signs: tap four fingers — “grow, energy, respond, reproduce” — on anything you spot.
